Well, Hi I'm new here and wish to help u with the mod, but that was not my question.
How will the gravity work.? I mean, fighter combat in space wouldnt be very fun if the fighters flew like the Jets in the original game.
In FS the fighters needs to go just as fast upwards as downwards if u understand what I'm talking about.

hey welcome to the forum! we are currently working on gravity and SCHrifle has made great progress on it.. we have even seen a video showing zero G's, which he has found that you can assign it to a vehicle but yet have world physics for foot soldiers

I remember in 1942 if you took the gravity down, it messed everything up. I mean, it worked with normal infantry, but vehicles were a totally different story..especially aircraft. Once you enterd one it would never stop going up...I got in a helicopter and went upside down full throttle (DC) and I was pretty much not moving....not down or up.
I asked the GC devs why they didn't have no gravity in space, and they said they couldn't do it without messing other thnigs up or something like that. Anyways hope its not like that with BF2..

well our coder has applyed a zero g affect on the jsf and it didn't keep going up. so I think the bf2 engine can handle it.

Don't worry, the BF2 engine is way more capable than the 42 engine.

Sweet, can't wait. Great job coder(s)! Glad to hear it.

That sounds very good! But if its able to assign zero g to a vehicle, will it be able to assign Gs to an object? Imagin the world as a cube. If u reach "the end of the world" and steps forward u can walk normaly down the "slope". Like artificiall gravity.

Hmmmm...what about giving large ships artificial gravity so you can actually move around despite the s 0 g outside of the ship?

as we said you can apply it to ships and the world will remain with normal gravity settings..
so we could in fact apply norm gravity to capital ship and apply zero G to smaller ships.. hope that answers youtr questions

Nice, now the (hopefully) last question: A Star Destroyer is a mile long, will it be possible to have that big maps? And if it's possible to make them so big, how deep? Will it be like a cube, all sides the same length(not necessary the previous cube )? i hope i'm not too boring with all my questions

TBH we are not at the stage of determining that answer.. we are concentrating on ground physics and zero G's on fighters.. once we get to that stage i will answer hehe as for capital ships we are hoping to allow it so you can fight exteriorly (star figthers) and inside.. it hasnt been determined if this is possible (as no models are at that stage yet) but we believe from just peaking at the info that it could be true.. who knows... hopefully we will have answers soon.. but that you will have to wait and see...

lol a movable mile long object in the bf2 engine...
im seeing the server, and all the home computers exploding into mushroom clouds....
the biggest a bf2 map can be is.... 4km by 4km.... which is something like 1.7 miles by 1.7 miles... there wouldn't be much room to manuever in anyways.
the zero gravity thing is interesting though. if you had a realistic simulation of zero gravity, you would keep moving in whatever direction you applied force in (well the opposite of that direction, newtons third law), and you wouldnt stop untill you exerted an equal force in the opposite direction.
how the hell does star wars explain that? they live in a galaxie far far away with slightly altered physics that allow for momentum to gradually fade in zero gravity, and for sound to travel through a vaccum? lol.
in real zero g, your' space craft would need brake thrusters in front, especially for some high performnance fighter. i know the TIE fighter does not have this... seriously is there a star wars book that explains this somewhere?

Who knows...well it might be explained somewhere but with the technology they have in Star Wars I wouldn't be suprised if there was something more advanced than thrusters that applied force in the opposide direction...I guess....heh...except for the sound part and stuff...lol
