How hard could it be to tell a Star Destroyer to go forward at a minimum speed, and then make a 40* turn after 5 minutes? (Just as an example) I'm sure even a novice coder could figure that one out. Plus, can you imagine how weird that would look, feel, and seem, having a person driving the Star Destroyer around however he wants? If we had an idiot flying it, he could try to run it off the map. I just don't think it would work that way.

erm guys? i jus read through some modding stuff in totalbf2, it seems dice did not include the essex as a pilotable vehicle, coz something about when the thing moves, everyone on it would experience ub3r lag, and probably make their coms explode

yeah i read a similar thing too.. its all about the mesh size and the server CPU. its would be alot of work and would require alot of bandwidth too as the amount of objects moving!
TBH it would be easier to have a static star destroyer

We could just stray away from reality for gameplay purposes and have only 1 person pilot the star destroyer. Also, I doubt that someone driving the star destroyer off the map would be much of a problem. I mean look at GC and BF 1942. It almost never ocurred. Also, if someone does attempt to do that the person can just be booted and/or the crew on the bridge can perform mutiny on the captain.

There's only so many times we can stray away from reality and lore, vader

the mutiny thing wouldnt work like that.
i think it would. but we wont know until the testing purposes.
all i can say is think of this...
a star destroyer moving(fairly detailed 10k poly's lets say) and the rebels board to try and capture it, just imagine the amount of CPU power etc to power 50 players fighting within the ISD a person moving it, (so that adds up as 50 x 9k = 450k poly's + ISD 10k + craft flying around outside lets say 25k + details of ISD corridor 20k = 500k+ poy's! its a rediculas amount and the only engine that could ever possibly run it is the UT2007 engine thats still in dev stages!
it going to be an impossiblity i believe! or Critical heaven!

Well, I can't see how you couldn't have the Star Destroyer moving. They have it moving in Battlefront 2 and it works fine. Granted, it's probably not as detailed as we are going to make it, but we aren't putting UT2007 graphic models in this game either.

Well let's at least have it moving by itself automatically in space battles, but people will still be able to man the turbolasers. I just don't want it sitting there. Same thing for the Mon Calamari Cruiser.

I agree with you 100% there, vader.

Ofcourse, cose both of u are from the darkside!!!! Then it is impossible to do 2 sizes? One for static: Where rebles need to get into after fight against turbolasser and other smaller ships. And the other one, small size for fly around?

I don't think we should have two different sizes for star destroyers. Just 1 that floats by itself, and where the people can man the turbolasers. The Rebels can still board it if they get to the hanger. Then they'll have to fight their way all the way to the bridge where the turbolasers are being controlled.

I don't mind if something as big as a Star Destroyer moves or not, but I DEFINANTLY think ships suck as the Corellian Corvette (Blockade Runner), Nebulon-B, Carrack Crouser, Dreadnaught, Lancer Frigate etc should DEFINANTLY be pilotable, as they were in GC.
About Star Destroyers - The Imperial 1 Star Destroyer has 60 Turbolasers Cannons and 60 Ion Cannons. How many would be planned for this mod? 120 guns might be a wee big much. Maybe.

They had it working fine in battlefront but that's a differant game engine. The only thing we can do is wait for the model to be completed and start testing things.
