Most star destroyers are at least a couple km long (1 or 2 depending on the class), but we have to keep scaling in mind when were thinking about this. I mean, the map would have to be pretty d**n big for the star destroyer to fit in actual size.

I never said they were not that long. I said you should be able to SEE a Star Destroyer when its 300m out, unlike in GC where the view distance didn't allow you to see any more than a few hundred meters.

Since space maps won't have very many objects, we should be able to increase the view distance on the star destroyers without haivng performance problems.

Well, I guess if you get one hundred players on, that might be possible teamwork ;D but I think we can have some static ones, used as hangarbays and some pilotable cause I don't know if it is already good possible to have a vehicle in a vehicle Greetz Dragunov

It's possible as long as there isn't a vehicle collision mesh blocking the entrance of the hangar bay.

www.theforce.net/swtc/isd.htmlThis page is a detailed examination of the most important and distinctive functional features of the common star destroyer, and a quantitative assessment of some of the ships' capabilities. I quote... "Calculation of the size of Lord Vader's ISD at the start of Return of the Jedi, based on the known width of the Lambda-class shuttle, is one mile to within the measurement uncertainties. The result is 1.68±0.18 km. This method yields an absolute upper limit of 2.06 km and an absolute lower limit of 1.63 km. [Data: (1) With wings in docking mode the shuttle is 14.3m wide and 22.3m tall. (2) Star destroyer length is 28.8 times the width of the secondary (forward) docking bay. ] "

Depending on how big your gonna make your star destroyers, you need to be a bit careful, huge models like these, cant turn too fast ingame otherwise game plays gonna be sucky, but also you need to look out for the ammount of room your gonna have in maps to manouvre. Personally, i think ISD's a better at being static objectives that are needed to be destroyed, or maybe just eye candy.
If you look about the net you can find links to Smaller types of attack ships for the Imperial Navy to use as pilotable capital ships.
I think even Star wars Galaxies has a few new looking imperial ships, i cant remember, but worth checking out.

yeah.. i see your points.. i think a static one would be best.. also it will allow more detail to be added

Something fun would be a space battle map above and inside the star destroyer. Fighters could engage each other above this huge ship while players inside defend with turb blasters and what not. While this is happening, there is a large interior inside the star destroyer where players can control elevators, blast doors, hangar doors, laser cannons, and all sorts of other stuff.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Like both sides will of course have capital ships and what not. The Empire will have its Star Destroyer, Lancer Frigates, Carrack Cruisers, Interdictor Cruisers, and the Rebels their Mon Calamari Space Cruiser, Nebulon-B Frigate, Corellian Corvette, and Gallofree Medium Transport. All the ships will have a bridge where soldiers can man the lasers and turbolasers. The smaller ships should be pilotable, but the Star Destroyer and Mon Calamari Cruiser should be AI controlled or move on its own. And of course some ships will have fighters like the Star Destroyer, Mon Calamari Space Cruiser, Interdictor Cruiser and Nebulon-B Frigate. These fighters will engage each other, while soldiers on the ships' bridges will try to shoot them down or destroy the other ships. And the Rebels can use a YT-1300 Transport to board the Imperial ships or the Empire can use their Lamda Class Shuttle to board Rebel ships and fight their way to the bridge to take control of it. They'll have to fight their way from the hanger all the way to the bridge traveling through elevators, turbolifts, corridors, etc. Like the bridge could be a spawn point that the other team can take control of. The transport ship can be a spawn point to, so that other soldiers can board the ship. Once the soldiers take control of the enemy ship they can use it against the enemy. Also while inside if they don't want to take the ship by capturing the bridge they can destroy the turbolaser controls, the shields, the engines, etc. That's just my two cents.
